Hodder & Stoughton’s Black Jacket Books included 50 or so titles of current fiction and non-fiction with an emphasis on travel and exploration in addition to the publisher’s back catalog titles.
The jackets built on the Hodder and Stoughton logo (to the left) and varied the illustration or text on the book in the logo for each title in the series.
For Robert’s Gone Rustic a bit from a review by Beverly Nichols was included. A blurb about the book is included on the front jacket flap:
Barrie’s Admirable Crichton included an illustration from the book, tinted green:
Later jackets changed the design to emphasize the illustration unique to the title:
