Lippincott was one of many publishers with a “Popular Library” in the latter half of the 19th century and first few decades of the 20th century. The titles, as indicated on the jacket below, were popular authors of the day, their back catalog issued in series such as Lippincott’s Popular Library. A significant number are women, few are remembered today.
This copy of Rosa Nouchette Carey’s Wooed and Married was printed in the series in 1902. The jacket spine includes the book title and author, but not the front or back of the jacket. Instead, the jacket covers are used to advertise other titles in the series. Books are priced at .75 cents.
Additional series titles on the back of the jacket.
The title sports a solid, red cloth binding with gold decorations.
The title page indicates the date of printing. The series name is not included anywhere in or on the book itself.
